We have recently added, by far my favorite new piece of new technology to the shop. A Scanology handheld 3d scanner, the Simscan-E Gen 2.

This new high-resolution scanner is so much fun. The Simscan changes the game when it comes to quick prototyping. In the “Hyper-fine” mode it uses 81 blue lasers simultaneously for dimensional accuracy. In the worst-case scenario, the advertised +/- tolerances are .005”, with the normal use cases of about .001”. Improvements from last gen include additional dedicated laser for deep hole measuring, 3 different scan modes. Ultra-fast, Hyperfine, and deep hole. In Hyper-fine mode it takes 6,300,000 measurements per second.

All this together adds up to the ability to obtain a high-resolution 3D model and data. Then instantly generate a CAD model. This scanner will save both the customer and JTD lots of time and money. See it in action here.
